Social Inclusion
The development of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research projects and interaction with various productive sectors of society are characteristics of the Postgraduate Program (PPG) in Animal Science. It is possible to highlight actions developed by the faculty in three distinct areas of society: Projects with cultural impact and dissemination of knowledge in basic education; Projects with social impact for the community; and Projects with economic impact for the industrial and business sector.

+ The PPG, together with the Basic Education Integration Committee (CIEB), promotes actions such as: UNIFRAN’s Summer School; Meeting of the Basic Education Integration Committee; Scientific Initiation (IC) Guidelines in High School; in addition to promoting lectures, material and educational actions.

+ Together with the Social Integration Committee (CIS), it promotes community support projects of a solidarity and voluntary nature aimed at raising awareness of responsible ownership; collection and donation of supplies for nursing homes, collection and donation of clothes, shoes, toys and sweets for needy children. Animal health care campaigns are also offered.

+ The PPG provides consulting services to companies in the animal health sector, ecotourism and small rural producers, sharing innovative knowledge for the use of sustainable technologies; it promotes the Animal Science Lecture Series in order to improve the knowledge of professionals in the region.

+ Cão Idoso is a social project that offers free guidance for elderly dogs and their guardians. The goal of the project is to raise awareness and help guardians of elderly dogs to take care of the health and well-being of their animals. It brings together specialists from various areas of veterinary medicine, who offer practical and personalized guidance.

+ Momento Ciência Animal is a media product (podcast and YouTube) designed to give visibility to the research produced by the Program’s professors and students. The action is in line with the Program’s and the institution’s social responsibility practices, as it aims to bring researchers closer to society and minimize the impacts generated by Fake News, providing scientifically proven knowledge.

+ Pelos Outros is a social project dedicated to providing emotional support and moments of joy to those who need it most. Through dog therapy, we promote visits to hospitals, nursing homes, orphanages, and communities in vulnerable situations, providing comfort, affection, and well-being. Our therapy dogs, trained and accompanied by volunteers, create special bonds with hospitalized patients, the elderly, and children, contributing to emotional improvement and quality of life.

+ Ciência Cidadã is a project that unites researchers and the population in a partnership for the knowledge and conservation of biodiversity. Focused on identifying wild birds and recording their frequency in urban and rural areas of Franca, the project encourages the community to actively contribute to science through photography. Since its inception in October 2021, the initiative has engaged residents to observe and document the birds in their surroundings, promoting greater environmental awareness and expanding knowledge about local fauna. The images sent help researchers map the presence and distribution of species, strengthening conservation actions.

+ The Sustainable Management Program in Agricultural Systems develops research and social actions aimed at reducing the environmental impact of agricultural and livestock production. With a focus on reducing the use of pesticides, we seek alternatives that promote sustainability and the preservation of animal health and the environment. Our studies are conducted in partnership with associations, cooperatives, companies in the agricultural sector and rural producers, who apply sustainable technologies developed at the university in the field

+ Social project that brings the population closer to knowledge about the sustainable use of medicinal plants, promoting health and well-being in an integrated manner. Based on the concept of One Health, which considers the interconnection between human, animal and environmental health, the project provides accessible information on the safe use of natural plants in everyday life. Through workshops, lectures and community actions, we encourage the cultivation and responsible use of species with therapeutic properties, valuing traditional knowledge combined with science.
